Bread Toast

Besan Bread Toast is different from the usual toast as it is coated with a batter of besan. This recipe of toast is healthy as it provides both carbohydrates and protein.

Ingredients:

  • Bread slices – 8
  • Besan/chana flour – 1 ½ cup
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Green chilli(finely chopped) – 2
  • Coriander leaves(finely chopped) – ¼ cup
  • Ajwain/carom seeds– 1 tsp
  • Jeera/cumin – 1 tsp
  • Baking soda – a pinch(optional)
  • Water – as required

Method:

  • First step is to make the batter. In a bowl take besan/chana flour.
  • Add water to make a paste. The paste should be of running consistency.
  • Mix it properly to remove any lumps.
  • Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, Ajwain/carom, jeera/cumin and mix.
  • At last add baking soda, chopped green chilli and coriander leaves. Mix it properly.

  • Heat a nonstick pan or iron tawa and grease with oil. Both whole wheat Bread or White Bread can be used. Apply a thin layer of batter on one side of the slice. Place the batter side on the pan. Apply the batter on the upper side. Turn the side and apply some oil. Cook evenly from both sides.
  • If you want a crispy toast, toast the bread on pan or in a toaster before applying the batter. For softer toast use the slice as it is.
  • Serve hot with tomato sauce or green chutney.
